Canal du Midi

The canal (I thought was a little river on Oct 2) is the Canal du Midi... an amazing feat of engineering conceived in the 1600’s. Connects the Mediterranean Sea with the Atlantic.. bypassing Gibraltar, and pirates back in the day.

Best just to reference WikiPedia on this! [WiKi]

If you have the time, and money, you can pilot a small canal boat (your own or a rental) 100’s of KM in France. There’s a guide to plan your trip You can switch the website to Language English. [LINK]

Oh, you can hike or bike it as well. Or carry bikes on the boat.

Canal du Midi is not to be confused with the aqueduct that carried water from Uzès to Nîmes in Roman Times.

OCT07-Canal-over-River Seems like I shot this out the car window!

In notes: "Notice in the preview photo... boats are in the canal which is crossing a river!'. Hmmm... I'll have to find this photo and straighten this mess out.

Hmmm . notes say - There a view from Apple Maps showing the canal with locks passing over a smaller river just east of Carcassone. Need to find that too. I recall something like that. Sorry!

This page could obviously use some more work. That's probably not going to happen! Best to read WikiPedia, ...
